A new project for fun!

So I know this guy and his family who are wanting to spiff-up the
house with some cabinetry and so on.  He asked me to make some shelving
for two rooms and this is a good guy so I agreed to make something.

It's been some months since I've built anything of consequence and I like
to spend other people's money on projects so here we go.

The first unit will be 12.5' in length and be in a office type room.

It's got to be built in three sections for assembly etc.

This is the middle section.

The middle upper section will have a back-light for display of what-ever.

Birch plywood with poplar face frames.

Bead board door insets and backs.

I'm going to set this all on a toe space type base of 3.5".

See the switch boxes added in?

These will be side panels for the adjustable shelving.

Primer on the back

All painted up, except the face frame.

Here's where it's going to live, and you can see the base for the whole thing.

Starting on the side parts with adjustable shelves.

First shelf goes in...............

All painted and ready to install.

Three pieces in place.

Light shines

With the bead board on the wall

Finally there

From this look to .........

......... this the finial look.  Perhaps I'm biased, but I like it.
Floor looks great against the white.  The stuff on the shelves are a nice contrast as well.

On to the next room.  This is expected to be easier as it doesn't have to appear to be all one unit.
Two main pieces and a mantel type piece between.  These are the sides.

... and here's where they will be going.

Start with a little bead board

Set in the two main pieces and reframe the fireplace........

Add a cornice board

Prepare for the new mantle to cross under the TV.........

Mantle in process

Almost done, and would have been if it weren't for the fact that I messed up the doors for the lower cabinets.  Some how, I built them 7 inches too wide!  Still don't know how that happened.  The home owner did some painting here.  They've been in flux for some weeks now and are ready to get'er done.  He did a fine job and saved lots of time for me and them.

Yeah!, resized doors ready to install.

Here's where we started

Here's where we finished, done and done!

Smelly pond smel-e pond it's not your fault............

So we've got this nice little pond right up next to the screened porch.
We sit and watch ducks, cranes, turtles and fish and all sorts of forest wildlife.

The thing about it is that last Winter (2013-14) we lost at least 100 fish due to suffocation.

The pond froze over in October 2013 and didn't thaw until March 2014.  (Dang Global warming!)

We found frozen fish floating upside down all over the shore.  I did some asking around in order to know what caused this.  No air in the lower water levels was the answer offered by a guy who knew lots of things about fish.  So, I needed to aerate the water!  I checked into buying what we needed and found this equipment cost $1,000s.  What to do?

A guy at work offered me an old pump out of a hot tub.  Cool, I'll take it.

Now I need something for it to float on.

How about PVC?

Looks good.

Now on to the spray pattern, more PVC.

Make a take-up tube, drilling many holes in it small enough to exclude fishes and what-not.

Take-up tube is 9 foot long, and came within 2 foot of the bottom of the pond.

Beta testing from the shore.  Worked fine.

Tethered float testing.  Also worked well.
(Plants to disguise the pump)

Now to build a housing for the pump to keep it out of the weather.

Outlet on top, inlet on the side.

Electrical connections made in a weather tight box.

Almost done.

Weather tight now and ready to pump.

I used it all of last Fall (2014) and found that it caused a bad smell from the pond.

We used it anyway as we had purchased fish and didn't want to loose them again.

After say about a month, the smell went away and the pond was much more clear.

This is made to be taken apart and stored during winter.  The pond is still mostly frozen

as I write this.  I hope to have the pump back in operation by Saturday.

"My body, my choice"

I work in a liberal place where everything that can, is.  Pornography is glorified as art and valuable.  There is lots of talk about "Rights".  Human rights, animal rights, mother Earth rights etc. etc.

While on the job this morning, I saw a computer monitor with a screen displaying the following in bright colors:

My body, my choice

If you didn't already know, this is a reference to abortion.

As is with all self-righteous movements, they on-purpose, miss the mark.  While claiming that it's "their" body, somehow it's always the baby's body that suffers.

I am aware that few people, if any, view this blog.  Out of the few that happen to see this, there will be some who fuss about me posting this picture.  To that I ask:  What is better, to see a murdered baby, or to commit abortion yourself?  Of course this is grotesque and I dare say that those who campaign FOR abortion are the first to complain about the exposure of it.  If it's bad to see it, it's bad to do it.

So according to this simple minded widget above, trying to stop her from killing her baby is a "War on women".  If this is war on women, why are only the baby dying?

By the way, this was a female baby.  Does she look like a war victim?  She should, because she was at war with her mother, ... and lost.  Her mother paid a person to cut her head off.

Referred to as late term abortion, it works like this .............

Deliver the baby most of the way, then kill her by decapitation.  It's human sacrifice in the name of convenience.  We tend to think of human sacrifice as stone aged brutishness and not possible in these enlighten days.  Not so, liberals embrace this with a shout of support!

My body, my choice she screams!!

But it's not her body that suffers, it's the baby's body she's paying to have killed.  And isn't she classy?  These classy ladies below are from Spain and they're protesting the need for free abortion rights.

Are these the ilk you want on your side?

Sadness.

It's the whole world.

There's only one who can change this.  His name is Jesus.  Address him today, He does not condemn, He forgives and will never mention it again.
